The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is one of those movies that I have to leave on whenever I’m flipping channels and land on it.
For some reason, it’s just so comforting when nothing else good is on. It’s just one of those movies that fades quietly into the background, even when you’re watching it at full volume. Not sure if anyone would actually call themselves a fan of the movie but I like bright flashing colors and loud noises so the film satisfied my requirements right there.
But for some insane reason, 20th Century Fox is actually rebooting the franchise. Sure, the first film cost $78M to make and only grossed about $179M at the box office, but the source material must just be too good to pass up. Anyone who’s a fan of Alan Moore and Kevin O’Neill‘s source graphic novel would know just how dark and intense things can get. Unlike the 2003 film.
The reboot is set to be helmed by Ira Napoliello and Matt Reilly, who will hopefully turn it into a Victorian-era Avengers. It’s not yet known what the movie will be about, but if it’s the same cast of characters as the previous one, this would be a pretty solid fantasy recast:
Allan Quatermain – Ralph Fiennes
Captain Nemo – Cliff Curtis
Mina Harker – Jessica Chastain
Rodney Skinner – Benedict Cumberbatch
Dorian Gray – Michael Fassbender
Tom Sawyer – Logan Lerman
Dr. Henry Jekyll / Mr. Edward Hyde – Andy Serkis/MoCap
Professor James Moriarty – Idris Elba
So there you have it, the ultimate recast of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen reboot.
If you disagree with any of those, it doesn’t matter because Fox won’t listen to me anyway.
P.S. – Did you know the 2003 film was the last live-action movie Sean Connery acted in? Yeah that… that’s really sad.
